Most important meal of the day? It's gotta be More Than Waffles

ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Waffles dipped in Belgian chocolate, and topped with fresh strawberries and ice cream.

Others get bananas and a chocolate drizzle, and for the little kids (and big kids, too), there are even waffles with bits of Oreo cookies baked inside.

At More Than Waffles in Encino, most are big enough to share.

"You all have more than 20 waffles on the menu," ABC7's Rachel Brown said.

"Twenty-six, yeah," owner Ika Taft said.

To see what all the fuss was about, we made our way to the bottom level of the Encino Town Center on Ventura Boulevard.

"It's kind of become like a family neighborhood tradition," manager Henny Dekel said. "So, Encino has just always been so good to us, and we hope we're good to them, also."

A beautiful space full of florals and antiques imported from Europe.

And More Than Waffles delivers on its promise, with plenty on the menu, including breakfast scrambles and skillets, and big plates of potatoes and chilaquiles.

Sandwiches, salads, pancakes, and crepes.

Taft started as a server here in 1989.

She and her husband, Greg, later purchased More Than Waffles, and are thrilled to be recognized by a customer for this week's Community Eats.

"It fills my heart with so much joy," Taft said, "And I don't take it lightly."

Dekel, Taft's daughter, said she knows people in their community have tons of options, and is grateful for decades of support.

"It's nice to know that people still like what we do here and what we offer," Dekel said. "It is not just the food, it also the service and the atmosphere, and it's nice to know people appreciate it."

Great spot, nice big portions, and I loved the banana honey waffle.

The restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., seven days a week.

More Than Waffles is in the Encino Town Center, at 17200 Ventura Blvd #109, in Encino.
