Sexual assault of a minor suspect fatally shot by San Bernardino PD

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Police shot and killed an armed suspect who was wanted for sexual assault of a minor overnight in San Bernardino, according to the department.

San Bernardino police officers were called to the New Zion Manor apartments just before 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a sexual assault involving a minor

Police say that as they tried to detain the suspect, officers got into a struggle with him, but he managed to break free and arm himself with a large kitchen knife.

San Bernardino police say the suspect then charged at officers while wielding the knife. Officers again struggled with the suspect, "in an attempt to prevent the suspect from stabbing them."

When one officer began falling backward, the suspect reportedly kept advancing toward him, and that's when officers shot and killed him, the department said.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Kevin Jay Lamar Huguley Jr.

Huguley apparently had a history of arrests for sexual assault-related offenses.

One of the officers was hurt, but has already been released from the hospital.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Det. Z. Ewing at(909) 998-3498 or via email at ewing_za@sbcity.org. Information may also be provided to Sgt. E. Campos at (909) 998-3491 or via email at campos_er@sbcity.org.
