Studio City water service restored after water main break flooded road

STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Water service has been restored after a water main break flooded a Studio City neighborhood over the weekend, sending water rushing through streets and impacting dozens of residents.

On Sunday morning, only a few traffic cones remained along Coldwater Canyon Avenue near Woodbridge Street, where crews spent hours repairing the damaged pipe.

According to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, an eight-inch cast-iron water main burst around 4 p.m. Saturday near 4283 Coldwater Canyon Ave.

Video from the scene showed water pouring through the residential neighborhood and flooding the roadway. Neighbors said the flooding became so severe that one Tesla appeared to float in the rushing water.

"It's loud in my house. It sounds like Hurricane Harbor," Studio City resident James said Saturday. "Raging waters or something like that. I just thought someone was jet washing."

The break affected water service for approximately 40 to 60 residents. LADWP had estimated service would be restored by Sunday morning, and officials confirmed water service has now been restored.

The flooding also appeared to cause damage to Coldwater Canyon Avenue, with part of the roadway crumbling under the force of the water.

There were no immediate reports of property damage or injuries.
