UPLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- A police officer and teen suspect were taken to the hospital after a chase ended in a crash in Upland overnight.

It started in Sherman Oaks where a caller reported their son threatened family members with a knife and took their car, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The 17-year-old didn't stop when officers tried pulling him over and a chase ensued.

The pursuit ended up in Upland where police say the suspect rammed into an officer's car and then crashed into a mailbox.

An officer suffering from pain was taken to the hospital to get checked out. The teenage suspect was also taken for a foot injury.
