Machete-wielding man confronted by police at UCI Health in Los Alamitos, prompting lockdown
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (KABC) -- A medical center in Los Alamitos was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning as police confronted a machete-wielding man in a parking lot.
The incident occurred at UCI Health - Los Alamitos, resulting in a massive response by officers from at least two agencies.
A swarm of officers from the Long Beach and Los Alamitos police departments descended on the medical center located at 3751 Katella Avenue.
A bystander's video showed the shirtless suspect pacing back and forth on a sidewalk, swinging the machete and apparently yelling at nearby officers.
Whether the man was taken into custody was not immediately confirmed, but video from AIR7 later showed officers moving through the parking lot on foot as the investigation got underway.
A spokesperson for the Orange County Fire said firefighters were on standby at the scene.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department said its deputies were not involved in the response and referred questions to the Long Beach Police Department.
