As fighting in Iran escalates again, Americans are wondering how much gas prices will rise this time.
The renewed stress at the pump comes following remarks President Trump made while in Turkey for the NATO summit. When asked about the current temporary truce with Iran, the president said "to me, I think it's over."
That followed an intense exchange of fire between the two countries earlier this week, which sent oil prices surging by more than 6%.
Meanwhile, gas prices in California are already starting to increase. On Thursday, the average prices for a gallon of gas in the state was $5.38, which 2 cents higher than the day before, according to AAA. Still, that's nearly 50 cents cheaper than this time last month.
"It's very frustrating to watch the gas prices go up and down especially when you're driving a car that requires it, there's nothing much you can do so I try not to get upset over things I can't control. What I can control is my voice and my vote and that's what I do. I go to the polls and that's when I express myself," said Aleka of Woodland Hills.
ABC7 met Aleka at a gas station in Hollywood where to fill up your tank with regular gas, it cost nearly $6. Aleka's sister visiting from Texas couldn't believe it.
"Before I left I pumped $3.09 in Texas. I thought that was a lot. But, when I came here, she picked me up from the airport, I go 'oh my god.' $5.00 for gas is insane. It goes up and down in Texas. It was four something, but the other day it was three something," said Nodja, who didn't provide her last name.
The current average in Los Angeles County for a gallon of regular gas is $5.40. One month ago, it was closer to $6 so we're still in better shape than we were, but one year ago before the war in Iran started, the average was $4.55, according to AAA.
As gas prices continue to fluctuate, ABC7 has a new tool to help you balance your budget. You can enter your car's information on our gas price calculator to see how much it will cost to fill up.
