RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A teenager had to be rescued after climbing a fence on an overpass and falling onto a freeway sign in Riverside.

California Highway Patrol officials said the teen jumped out of a car and scaled the fence on the La Sierra overpass at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

He apparently slipped and landed on the Magnolia Avenue exit sign above the westbound side of the 91 Freeway.

Rescuers placed him in a gurney and lowered him down.

He was taken to the hospital for a back injury.
