SALTON CITY, Calif. (KABC) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.3 struck the Salton City area of Imperial County Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor, which had a depth of 5 miles, hit shortly after 7:30 a.m. approximately 14 miles east of Salton City and 36 miles north-northwest of El Centro, the USGS said.

The quake happened near the Salton Sea, which is located right on the San Andreas Fault.

Multiple earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 3.0 rattled the area shortly after the 4.3 quake.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
