SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Frightening video from a barber shop in San Bernardino shows a pair of hair clippers bursting into flames.
Gavin Machain said the incident happened on Wednesday at Pulga Cutz barber shop. He said he had just finished giving a man a haircut when the clippers caught on fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
"I sit down with my friend on the couch and I just hear, 'Boom!" he recalled.
According to Machain, the clippers - which were the Instinct clippers made by a company called StyleCraft - were only two months old, adding they're growing in popularity because they are cordless.
"In the past, people would have a certain clipper for debulking, like going through the thick bulk of the hair, but you'll also need to do the fade on the side, which you'll need something more detailed, not so powerful."
Eyewitness News contacted StyleCraft Pro for a comment regarding the incident but has not heard back.
Meanwhile, Machain said he's using another brand of clippers. Other barbers are considering making the switch too.
"I'm still using that version of the clipper, but after that incident, I might just toss them away," said barber Abraham Cervantes.
"I'm just glad it didn't injure my client, thinking about that, right next to their head, or my hand," said Machain. "This is my moneymaker, you know? I can't work without my hand."
