SAN DIMAS, Calif. (KABC) -- A Quiznos store owner died after being shot during a confrontation with a robbery suspect in San Dimas on Tuesday.
Authorities responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 1034 West Arrow Highway at about 3:20 p.m. and found a 63-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the torso area.
The victim, a San Dimas resident, was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died. A coroner identified him as Pravin Patel.
According to witnesses, a robbery suspect entered Quiznos and brandished a semi-automatic handgun, demanding money from the store owner.
The store owner handed the suspect a bag of money, and then he followed and confronted the suspect outside the business.
After a brief struggle, Patel was shot, and the suspect fled the scene on foot.
The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man, age 25 to 30, about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black shirt and dark short pants with a plaid pattern.
