Sarah Stage, the pregnant model with a very toned physique, has become an internet sensation after pictures of her tiny baby bump went viral. Now, Stage is defending herself from critics who are trying to tell her what's healthy.
"As long as the baby is healthy I don't think anything else matters," Stage told Good Morning America. "That should be the most important thing."
Stage has uploaded several images of her toned body throughout her pregnancy which have generated backlash online.
"Where's this baby hiding at? Definitely not her tummy!!" wrote one Instagram user.
"She needs to feed that baby instead of worrying how to keep her figure," wrote another Instagram user. The model commented on what goes through her mind when she reads the negative comments.
"I just don't know how someone could say that to a pregnant woman," Stage told Good Morning America. "My baby's healthy and we're happy, but at the same time a lot of women have been very supportive."
Stage has said that although it may be hard to see, her body is definitely growing.
"My body has changed a lot, I've gained 20 pounds," Stage told Good Morning America. Medical professionals have commented that there's nothing unhealthy about Stage's pregnancy.
"The fact that she looks skinny on Instagram does not mean that her baby is growth restricted," said Dr. Jennifer Ashton, ABC News Medical Contributor. "If her uterus is the appropriate size, if her baby is measuring appropriately and she has gained an average amount of weight, that is medically acceptable."
Stage, however, is just focusing on her upcoming bundle of joy.
"As long as the baby is healthy, I really don't think anything else matters," Stage told ABC News. "So if you gain 60 pounds, 20 pounds, 80 pounds, as long as you're healthy and your baby's healthy, that's all that matters."
