LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The rare "supermoon" illuminated the night sky Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014.

The moon was at its closest approach to Earth for 2014, at about 221,765 miles. The moon appeared 16 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than usual.
