Seattle Pacific University shooting: 4 hit, 1 dead

SEATTLE (KABC) -- One person was killed and three others were injured on the Seattle Pacific University campus Thursday afternoon.

The suspect, identified by Seattle police as 26-year-old Aaron R. Ybarra, was in custody.

According to Harborview Medical Center officials, a woman in her 20s was listed in critical condition after undergoing a five-hour surgery, and a 24-year-old man was listed in satisfactory condition. A 22-year-old man, who was injured in a struggle with the suspect, was treated and released. The hospital said a 19-year-old man died of his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The shooter allegedly entered the campus with a shotgun, walked into the foyer of Otto Miller Hall and shot three people, according to Seattle Police Captain Chris Fowler. The shooter then began to reload. A student building monitor confronted the suspect and subdued him, police said. Other students helped pin the shooter down until police arrived.

The shooter is not believed to be a student at the school. He was expected to be booked for investigation of murder, according to police.

The suspect was armed with a shotgun and a knife and had additional rounds when he was arrested, police said. Investigators believe he acted alone.

The campus was locked down while police searched the area. The lockdown was lifted at about 5 p.m. PT.
