Flash-flood warning expires for Silverado Fire burn area in Orange County

SILVERADO, Calif. (KABC) -- A flash-flood warning expired at 1 p.m. Monday for the Silverado Fire burn area in east central Orange County.

The first warning was issued around 4:30 a.m. and expired at 7:30 a.m. The warning was reissued around 11 a.m.

According to NWS, heavy rainfall began approaching the area around midday, and rainfall rates of 1/2 inch was observed in just 30 minutes near the burn area. NWS said Rainfall exceeding 1/2 inch or more in one hour could cause flash flooding and mud and debris flows.

Affected areas included homes and businesses in and around Silverado Canyon Road.

The Silverado Fire scorched approximately 1,000 acres last September, leaving little vegetation to hold water back.
