SOUTH GATE, Calif. (KABC) -- Police are searching for clues in connection to a hit-and-run that left a man dead in South Gate Sunday evening.

Trinidad Gomez was killed while walking in a crosswalk near the intersection of Tweedy Boulevard and San Vincente Avenue just before 7 p.m.

"It still hasn't really hit me, but it's shocking. I just saw him Wednesday and now come to find out he's gone," Eduardo Gomez said.

Several evidence markers now litter the ground, but the family says what upsets them the most is there are no skid marks. They believe the driver didn't even slow down.

"I couldn't fathom thinking about just fleeing a scene and just not caring. I was there earlier and they didn't notice any tire marks, any brake marks. It just seems like this person just ran and took right off," Adrian Flores said.

The suspect's vehicle was described as a black or dark gray Nissan 4-door sedan, possibly an Altima or Maxima. Investigators believe it could have front-end damage.

Anyone with information was urged to contact South Gate police at (323) 563-5400.
