SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are searching for four suspects who opened fire on a Metro bus in South Los Angeles Monday afternoon, injuring one person.
A crossfire between two groups of gang members on bus 207 occurred at about 12:08 p.m. as it was traveling in the area of Western Avenue and Century Boulevard, according to authorities.
A 30-year-old man was transported to California Hospital Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the back in stable condition.
One of the witnesses, a 12-year-old boy, said he and his sister ran through an alley to escape the gunfire.
Police said the victim entered the bus with his wife and sat down while gang members in one part of the bus and other gang members in the back of the bus began asking about their gang affiliations.
As the man and his wife tried to move to another seat, a gang member in the back of the bus fired a shot toward the gang members at the front of the bus, striking the victim.
Authorities are using video footage on the bus to help identify the suspects. One of the suspects was seen fleeing southbound on Western Avenue. He is described as a black man in his early 20s, 5 feet 4 inches, wearing a black baseball hat, black T-shirt and blue jean shorts.
The investigation is ongoing.
