If the new "Star Wars" movie title wasn't enough movie goodness for you, Disney announced on Thursday that that "Toy Story 4" is in the works.
D23, the official Disney fan club, announced on their Twitter feed on Thursday that a new "Toy Story" film was headed to the big screen.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the movie is set for June 2017. The film will include Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang, and will be directed by John Lasseter, who helmed the first "Toy Story" film. Lasseter currently serves as Chief Creative Officer at Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and DisneyToon Studios, and has written and directed other Disney and Pixar animated features.
"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," said Lasseter. "We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie-and I wanted to direct it myself."
The first "Toy Story" film was released in 1995, which was Pixar's first major hit. "Toy Story 3" grossed over $1 billion worldwide when it was released in 2010.
Writing team Rashida Jones and Will McCormack ("Celeste and Jesse Forever") joined the project, and Pixar veteran Galyn Susman (ABC's "Toy Story OF TERROR!" and "Toy Story that Time Forgot") is producing. "Toy Story" isn't the only Disney Pixar franchise with a sequel in the works. "The Incredibles 2" and "Cars 3" are sequels currently in the works from the studio.
