NEW YORK -- A symbol of freedom is marking a milestone.
It was 130 years ago Wednesday, on June 17, 1885, that the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor.
The statue's arrival was originally supposed to mark the 100th birthday of the United States. But the sculptor didn't finish in time for the centennial celebration in 1876.
The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
It was designated as a national monument in 1924.
