Bass summoned to testify as House committee examines LA homeless spending
Bass has not publicly commented on the request to appear before Congress.
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A congressional subcommittee has asked Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to testify later this month as lawmakers examine how federal funds intended to address homelessness have been spent in Los Angeles.
The Republican-led House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency has summoned Bass to testify Sept. 15.
The committee claims some nonprofit organizations that received federal funds through the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority may not have used the money as intended.
Overnight, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority told the Los Angeles Daily News that it welcomes a congressional review. The agency also said previous investigations found no evidence of fraud.
Bass has not publicly commented on the request to appear before Congress. However, Eyewitness News has learned that the mayor's office has received the letter and is preparing a response.
