SUV fire on 2 Freeway in Eagle Rock sparks small brush fire

EAGLE ROCK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A flaming SUV on the busy 2 Freeway in Eagle Rock sparked a small brush fire on Tuesday night.

The SUV was seen fully engulfed in flames around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday on the 2 Freeway northbound near Colorado Boulevard.

The flames from the SUV quickly spread up the parched hillside near Glendale, right toward a neighborhood.

Glendale and Los Angeles fire departments got resources to the scene quickly to protect the nearby homes.

A Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter assisted with some precision water drops, helping to extinguish the danger.

Northbound traffic on the 2 Freeway was stopped for a time, but the freeway has since reopened.

It's unclear what caused the initial SUV fire, but it appears the vehicle is a total loss.
