Thousands participate in OC Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Thousands of people participated in the 26th annual Susan G Komen-Orange County Race For the Cure on Sunday for breast cancer research and patients.

ABC7's own Michelle Tuzee kicked off the 5K run and walk at 7:15 a.m., and a 1-mile "fun Walk" for kids and their families to enjoy took place at 8 a.m.

A breast cancer survivor tribute was held at the event as well.

Last year, about 18,000 people participated and raised more than $2.4 million. This year, the goal is to raise $2 million, all of which would help local screening treatments and educational programs.

The Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure is the largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer.
