Cincinnati suspect goes for officer's gun in interrogation room

CINCINNATI (KABC) -- A police interrogation suddenly turned into a life or death fight over a gun in Cincinnati.

It all began when a police officer walked into an interrogation room where 23-year-old Thomas Robinson, a suspected murderer, was being held.

Robinson already had one arm hand-cuffed to his chair, and when the officer started to adjust that cuff, Robinson locked eyes on the officer's gun.

As the officer bent over, Robinson suddenly made his move and attempted to grab the weapon.

Authorities stormed in, but the fight went on. Eventually, an officer was able to fire a Taser at Robinson and subdue him.

"What appears to be a routine could turn to the most dangerous situation, and that is the dynamic about this profession. And, you know, we need to make sure we take all the steps necessary to ensure everyone's safety as fast as possible," said Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac.

Because Robinson was caught on tape going for the officer's gun, he could be facing attempted murder charges.
