SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif (KABC) -- A stretch of the 5 Freeway will see nightly closures for three weeks as crews demolish an old bridge located in both Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs.
The project to take down the Carmenita Road Bridge will require a full closure overnight seven days a week between Rosecrans and Valley View avenues.
Caltrans began the demolition last Friday. The closures will be in effect Monday through Thursday from midnight to 5 a.m. and on the weekends, Friday through Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The westbound SR-91 connector to northbound I-5 and the southbound I-605 connector to southbound I-5 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Crews will also widen the freeway from Alondra Boulevard to Shoemaker Avenue by adding a carpool lane as well as one general purpose lane in each direction.
