LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A pickup truck collided with an SUV before slamming into a home near downtown Los Angeles late Thursday evening, authorities said.

The incident occurred about midnight at the intersection of Compton Avenue and East 24th Street, where a white Ford pickup hit a black Range Rover.

Mario Pacheco and his parents were asleep when the truck barreled through a wall.

Pacheco said he heard "a hit and a boom through the door."

"The engine smell or whatever - I don't know what the smell was - it was covered in my mouth," he said. "I was coughing and coughing."

He called out to his parents to ask if they were OK. No injuries were reported.

The driver and possibly two passengers fled the scene on foot. They remained at large.

In the aftermath of the crash, Pacheco said he looked inside the cab of the truck, which was still in gear with its engine turned on. The keys, however, were not in the ignition.

Pacheco speculated that the vehicle may have been stolen.
