Long Beach man grows giant pumpkin, hopes it reaches 1,000 pounds by Halloween

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Talk about go big or go home!

A Long Beach man is growing a giant pumpkin and hopes it can reach 1,000 pounds by Halloween.

Robert Rodriguez planted a pumpkin seed in his girlfriend's parents' front yard more than a month ago - and it's been growing!

"I was really aiming for 500 pounds at the end of the season, by October, just to have something on the porch, something to look at, but it has actually grown a lot faster than expected," he said. "It's been a whole learning experience, so just be prepared to learn if you try something like this."

He said he named the pumpkin "Peaches" after James and the Giant Peach.
