LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Red-flag warnings have expired for much of Southern California, including the Palisades and Eaton fire areas, as windy, fire-prone weather eases up.
Gusty northeast winds will continue into Thursday morning before an onshore flow arrives in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles. This will result in a cooling trend through the weekend with higher humidities.
However, a red flag warning remains in effect through 3 p.m. Thursday for the Santa Susana Mountains, Interstate 5 corridor and western San Gabriel Mountains, according to the weather service.
It's possible Santa Ana winds return next week.
"Good news: We are expecting a much-needed break from the fire weather concerns to close this week," the weather service posted on social media. "Bad News: Next week is a concern. While confident that we will NOT see a repeat of last week, dangerous fire weather conditions are expected."
No significant rain is in the forecast.
Los Angeles and Orange counties can expect a high of 67 degrees, dropping to 42 overnight. Weekend temperatures are expected to drop just below 60.
The valleys and Inland Empire will see a high of 67 and a cold 37 overnight. Northeast canyon winds could reach 25 mph.
Beaches will be around 59 degrees amid morning clouds and afternoon sunshine. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s through the weekend.
Mountains will be cold as a high of 47 and a low of 17 is on tap Thursday. Similar weather is expected for the next few days.
Deserts will be sunny, with a high of 61 and a low of just 22 degrees. Palm Springs is expected to reach 72 degrees.
