Heat relief is finally moving into SoCal. Here's when temps will cool

Southern California will see a much-needed cooldown this week, bringing temperatures back down to a near-normal range after weeks of scorching heat.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Southern California will see a much-needed cooldown this week, bringing temperatures back down to a near-normal range after weeks of scorching heat.

Before the change in temperatures arrives, A heat advisory continues through 8 p.m. Sunday for much of the Los Angeles region except for the coasts. Communities farther inland, including Victorville, Hesperia and Lucerne Valley, are under an extreme heat warning through Sunday evening.

The area of high pressure currently impacting our forecast brings monsoonal moisture into the region. With that, our mountain and desert regions could see thunderstorms the next few days.

We are finally tracking cooler temperatures by mid-week. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather pattern turns more onshore as high pressure weakens and low pressure is introduced back into the forecast,

This shift will help cool things down and bring temperatures back down to where we should be for this time of year.

Los Angeles and Orange counties on Sunday will see sunshine with a high of 88 degrees and a low of 67. Temperatures will dip to the mid-80s by Tuesday and will keep gradually dropping throughout the week.

The valleys and Inland Empire can expect a high of 100 degrees on Sunday and a low of 71. Temperatures will begin to cool on Tuesday, with more cooling expected throughout the week.

Beach communities on Sunday can expect clouds in the morning followed by afternoon sunshine, with a high of 78 degrees and a low of 70. Expect similar conditions for the next several days.

Mountain communities on Sunday will see a high of 86 degrees and a low of 56. There's a 20% chance of thunderstorms for the next several days as monsoonal moisture moves into the region.

Desert areas will be dangerously hot on Sunday, with a high of 105 degrees and a low of 73. Palm Springs is expected to reach 112 degrees. In addition to heat, a 10% chance of thunderstorms lingers in the forecast for the next several days.
