LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Although winds were weaker than expected Tuesday in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, the threat of strong winds remains another "Particularly Dangerous Situation" red flag warning in effect again.
In a social media post Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service warned that although conditions had temporarily improved, the region was "not quite out of the woods yet." The agency urged residents to "stay aware of your surroundings," adding that the Santa Ana winds will still be "strong enough to potentially cause explosive fire growth."
The "particularly dangerous situation" red flag warning will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, while a more general red flag warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m.
Winds are expected to be in the 45-70 mph range, along with relative humidity as low as 8%.
According to the NWS, areas covered by the "particularly dangerous situation" warning include: western San Gabriel Mountains/I-5 Corridor, Santa Susana Mountains, southern Ventura County Mountains, Ventura Valleys (mainly near Simi Valley, Moorpark, Santa Paula, South Mountain), western San Fernando Valley (mainly highways 118/210 corridors from Porter Ranch to San Fernando), Calabasas, Agoura Hills, western Santa Monica Mountains and the Ventura County coastal plain.
This is the fourth time in three months the weather service in Los Angeles has issued the high-level alert, with the last one occurring last week when winds went up to 100 mph and the fires in Los Angeles County began. It's rare to see this type of alert.
Although an area of low pressure is expected this weekend, no significant rain is in the forecast.
In Los Angeles and Orange counties Wednesday, expect an afternoon high of 73 degrees, dropping to 41 overnight. Gusts will be around 30 mph.
The valleys and Inland Empire Wednesday will reach a high of 70 and a low of 39. Gusts up to 35 mph are expected.
Beaches Wednesday will be around 65 and surf will be between 1-3 feet. Northeast winds will reach 35 mph.
Mountain areas Wednesday will reach a high of 45 degrees and a chilly 19 is expected overnight. A red-flag warning is in effect amid windy conditions.
The deserts Wednesday will reach 63 degrees, dropping to 20 overnight. Palm Springs will be 72 degrees.
