Zamboni driver arrested for DUI at high school Hockey game

A Zamboni driver was arrested after allegedly operating the resurfacing machine at a high school hockey game while impaired, according to ABC News.

Steven Anderson was arrested after displaying "erratic behavior" between the first and second periods of a girls high school hockey game in Fargo, N.D.

"Some of the parents noticed the driver appeared to be impaired," Jim Larson, Director of Finance and Humans Resources for Fargo Parks, which owns the rink, told ABC News. "I have been with the district for 22 years and this is the first time we've experienced this."

Spectators say that Anderson was seen weaving and bumping into boards on the rink throughout the first period, according to ABC 6 Fargo.

A school district employee then called authorities and Anderson was arrested for suspected DUI. According to Larson, Anderson worked for the rink on and off seasonally for six years, and that the Zamboni driver is totally removed from work at this time.

"Safety is critical . . . we consider this to be a very serious incident. On Monday we will take a full review to see how this happened and what we can do keep it from ever occurring again," Larson told ABC News.

ABC News reports that no players on the ice were injured and no damages were caused as result of the incident. Anderson could potentially face 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
