Community marches in support of teen shot by deputies in Westmont

WESTMONT, Calif. (KABC) -- Community members marched Saturday in support of the family of a teen who was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies in Westmont earlier in the week.

Anthony Webber, 16, was shot on Sunday. The incident began when deputies were called to a report of a young man pointing a handgun at a motorist on West 107th Street. Deputies saw Webber in the area and thought he matched the description of the suspect. There was a brief chase and deputies said they believed he turned toward them pointing a gun and that's when they opened fire.

Investigators did not recover a gun at the scene, but they noted a large crowd gathered in the area after the shooting and they suspect someone in the crowd may have taken the weapon.

The family and community members remain skeptical of that account.

"We want more transparency," said Anthony's father, John Weber. "We want third-party review and observation of the autopsy. We want a chain of evidence in public view and we want to get to the bottom of this. That's all."

Family and community members marched from the area of the shooting in Westmont to the sheriff's station on Imperial Highway. John Weber joined with community groups who are frustrated over the larger issue of police shootings.

Anthony Weber had a 9-month-old baby.
