The gunman then left the scene in a car. Officers searched the Mormon temple in Westwood and the surrounding streets because the suspect was believed to have gone to a relative's house in the neighborhood.
The suspect, 47-year-old Adel Hakim, was later found in a car on the 5 Freeway in Mission Hills.
The victim was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Investigators say the gunman and the victim were brothers.
