Yogurt may help fight gum disease

Japanese researchers say regularly eating yogurt and other foods with lactic acid may lessen the severity of gum disease.Scientists studied 942 men and women, aged 40 to 79, and their intake of milk, cheese and lactic acid foods.

They found that those who ate 55-grams or more of yogurt and similar foods daily had less severe periodontal disease.

The study is published in the journal of Periodontology.
