Suspect in O.C. crash re-apprehended

SANTA ANA Xana Marks, 23, walked out the front door of the Western Medical Center in Santa Ana late Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Authorities allege the Marks was on the run after a traffic stop Monday. She lost control of the stolen SUV she was driving and crashed it in Tustin, hitting several other vehicles and injuring a number of other drivers.

Police allege Marks escaped from the wreckage and tried to flee before being taken into custody.

"She was running and she was quite upset. She was yelling, kicking, screaming and thrashing," said Paula Nelson, Tustin crash victim.

Authorities say Marks suffered minor injuries.

Officers found stolen property and drugs inside the car, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A California Highway Patrol officer was supposed to be watching her at the hospital, but so far, there's no word on how she was able to escape.

She was reported missing around 4:30 a.m.

"We did have an officer in the hospital. It is under investigation whether or not he was in the room or outside the room when she fled from the hospital," said CHP Officer Jennifer Hink.

Authorities said security did notice a woman leaving the hospital wearing only a hospital gown, but it is still not clear why the guard did not ask any questions.

Marks faces a number of charges including burglary.

The vehicle she crashed was reported stolen from a dealership in Redlands and property located inside was reported stolen Monday from a home in San Juan Capistranno.
