Suspect shot by Glendale police

GLENDALE Police towed a bullet-ridden GMC Denali out of the cemetery on Friday morning that Renee Munoz allegedly drove at police.

The incident began around 9:40 p.m. Thursday when Forest Lawn security called police to report that a driver was behaving suspicious. After more than two hours of talking with the hostage negotiator, Munoz got out of the SUV, got back in, then put the SUV in drive and hit the gas.

"We attempted to block his path. On his way crashing into the vehicles, Glendale police officers fired their duty weapons at the suspect," said Officer John Balian of the Glendale Police Department.

Hours before his run in with police officers, the LAPD said he shot and killed 37-year-old Kelly McCormick around 8 p.m. in the parking lot of a bowling alley, a woman who eyewitnesses said was his wife.

Police said they had dealt with Munoz before on domestic violence call.

Munoz was taken to County USC hospital in police custody and faces one murder charge.

LAPD Officer Ana Aguire said police were unsure what the motive for shooting McCormick was other than a dispute.
