Heavy babies prone to arthritis later

LOS ANGELES Researchers analyzed data from the Nurses' Health Study.

The likelihood of being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis was doubled in women born weighing more than 10 pounds, compared with those born weighing 7 to 8.5 pounds.

Authors suggest fetal nutrition plays an important role and it's a risk factor mother's can modify.

The findings are in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.
