Ontario woman shot while watering lawn

ONTARIO, Calif. "I heard the screaming," neighbor Nellie Roman said.

Police said the suspect tried to force the woman into her house, but she did not comply. She ran away and that is when the suspect shot her, police said. She went down onto the grass two doors from her house.

"That lady fell right in front of our house," Roman said.

Ontario police are still searching for a suspect. As for the victim, she is expected to recover.

"She's in the hospital right now," Ontario Police Det. Jeff Higbee said. "She's in stable condition. Detectives have re-interviewed her, trying to obtain more information on what happened. She's very lucky."

"From what I heard, everyone has very nice things to say about her and her husband," Roman said. "You just leave your home to take care of it, and somebody brazenly just comes up to you with a ski mask and just… 'Boom.' What is the world coming to?"

The suspect has a large build and was last seen with black clothing and a ski mask. A gold- or silver-colored Honda Accord may have also been involved. Call Ontario Police at (909) 395-2001 with any information.
