Alzheimer's relief from arthritis drug

July 21, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Can an arthritis drug have a positive effect on Alzheimer's patients? One local researcher says it could help them with word memory and recall. Enbrel is a drug given to arthritis patients to help with inflammation. But a local researcher conducted a small study and gave it to 12 Alzheimer's patients.

He says Enbrel greatly improved their language recall - almost immediately. But other experts worry that news of the study will raise hopes prematurely.

They say a more scientific, double blind study needs to be done to provide more evidence.
