How to get that perfect body -- for free

LOS ANGELES We all know that taking a walk or run in the park is a great way to work out without spending a dime. If you're ready to change it up, we've got some motivating workouts that will be sure to inspire you -- and you can get fit for free.

Start by logging on. ExerciseTV is one of the most comprehensive sites for innovative ways to sweat. From yoga to boot camp, they've got a stable of instructors offering a library of workouts for the beginner to novice alike. Just click and watch online. It's also available on digital cable TV.

Shape Magazine also offers an online component. Their instructors perform the workouts by various body parts. Basics to challenging, they can teach you exactly how to perform each move. Now no surprise with both sites, you will have to endure a commercial prior to viewing.

For those who would rather hit the trail, there is a free mapping Web site called MapMyRun.com. Using Google mapping technology, each map offers a detailed description of where to go. Users can also check other users' favorites or compare their performance with friends or teammates.

Some athletes, however, do recommend researching an area well for safety and traffic before embarking on a long run or hike.

If you're not interested in getting your fitness off the computer, many Southland parks offer fitness stations for adults. Once known as a "parcourse," the adult playgrounds feature many ways to challenge the body. A new one called World Trail can provide ways to stretch, strengthen or perform cardiovascular fitness, usually covering all major muscle groups.

So there really are no excuses -- there is loads of sunshine and plenty of room, and the price is right.
