Official fined $14K for misuse of money

LOS ANGELES The commission says he used money from an officeholder account to research his opponent during an election cycle -- money that should have come from his campaign fund.

It also said Huizar accepted money from registered lobbyists and spent more than the legal limit on his campaign.

Huizar's attorney says the problems are technical violations that should have been caught earlier.
