Hearing on kids' medicine underway

Pediatricians want the Food and Drug Administration to recall the medicines for children younger than 6, but the industry says over-the-counter medicines are safe for those older than 2.

It stopped selling cough and cold medicines for babies and toddlers last fall following reports the medicines send several thousand children to hospitals each year, apparently from unintentional overdoses.

The FDA is seeking more advice today from doctors, industry and consumers.
