911 call of Toys R Us shooting released

PALM DESERT, Calif. The shooting was on Black Friday at about 11:30 a.m. According to authorities, it all started when two women got into a fight inside the store.

Caller: I think this guy is dying.
911: What's going on?
Caller: I don't know. They just started fighting and all I heard was, 'He's got a gun,' and these two guys are on the floor and both of them are shot.
911: Both of them are shot?
Caller: Yes

Investigators said two men who were with the women pulled out guns and opened fire on each other. Both men were killed in the shootout.

No one else in the store was injured.

The victims were identified as Alejandro Moreno, 39, of Desert Hot Springs, and Juan Meza, 28, of Cathedral City.

Palm Desert Councilman Jim Ferguson said police told him two men with handguns shot and killed each other.

"I think the obvious question everyone has is who takes loaded weapons into a Toys "R" Us?" he said. "I doubt it was the casual holiday shopper."

Toys R Us officials issued a statement on Friday:
"We are outraged by the act of violence that occurred today in Palm Desert, California, and the fact that anyone would compromise the safety and security of our customers and employees. We are working closely with local law enforcement to determine the specific details of what occurred. Our understanding is that this act seems to have been the result of a personal dispute between two individuals. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to associate the events of today with Black Friday."
