The forklift was part of a crew working at the ambulance entrance of the former County-USC Medical Center.
Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department, says the forklift operator wasn't injured but was clearly shaken. Humphrey says the forklift operator was offered emotional support by firefighters and a clergy member on the scene.
The victim has not been identified.
