Sherman Oaks bank robbery locks down area

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. A U.S. Bank, on the 13700 block of Riverside Drive at Woodman Avenue, was robbed by two suspects Friday afternoon, prompting a call for a bomb squad to investigate a suspicious device left by the suspects.

Two suspects robbed the bank at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. One suspect carried a shotgun; the other, a handgun. They left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. They left a suspicious device behind.

LAPD bomb squad officers investigaed the suspicious device with the aid of a tactical robot. The investigation found the device was not explosive.

The U.S. Bank building and homes behind the building had been evacuated, but the evacuation was lifted after 5 p.m. Nearby Notre Dame High School was placed on lockdown pending the outcome of a suspect search and the bomb investigation. That lockdown was also lifted.

All lanes of the Riverside/Woodman intersection had been closed by LAPD, but the intersection was re-opened after 5 p.m.
