Arson suspected in Castaic brush fires

CASTAIC, Calif. Firefighters had the fire 75 percent contained about 9 p.m. Wednesday. The fire reportedly burned 75 acres. Approximately 200 firefighters were on scene.

L.A. County firefighters battled multiple hot spots east of the 5 Freeway. No injuries were reported.

A California Highway Patrol unit escorted northbound vehicles through the area just north of Templin Highway, north of Castaic, south of the Grapevine, where a closure had been in effect from about 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A northbound I-5 closure at Parker Road remained in effect until about 7 p.m.

The fire was reported at 4:49 p.m.

Arson is suspected in the fires, according to authorities. Police and firefighters say they have suspect descriptions of people who were in the area earlier. There is also a vehicle description. Fires apparently were set in different locations.

Two men with long hair were spotted leaving the area in a green sedan around the time the fires began.
