"The service is good. They are kind and considerate," said Soto.
More than a million other patients are also sounding off about what makes good patient care on a new Consumer Reports Web site.
The topped ranked hospital in L.A. County is a Whittier medical center many people haven't even heard of: Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.
"Patients are our business," said Chief Nurse Executive Reanna Thompson.
Reanna Thompson says the secret is to provide a positive work environment for employees because when doctors and nurses are happy about their jobs it shows.
"We do listen to the front line staff. They tell us what patients are telling them," said Thompson.
In L.A. County, PIH is followed by Huntington Memorial in Pasadena, Motion Picture and Television in Woodland Hills, USC University in L.A. and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.
The ratings did reveal trouble areas. Most hospitals were given low ratings for communicating about new medications and discharge instructions.
"There's always room for improvement and we are struggling with those issues just like all other hospitals," said Dr. Mark Magged, Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.
Many people view aggressive or cutting edge care as a positive thing. So the folks at Consumer Reports say you might be surprised to learn that it was the patients who received conservative care who were the most satisfied.
"We try to manage patients in the most cost effective manor, but we still get great outcomes," said Dr. Magged.
The top five hospitals in L.A., Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside counties:

- 3. Bear Valley Community
- 4. Presbyterian Intercommunity

- 3. East Valley Hospital
- 4. Hemet Valley Medical Center
- 5. Los Angeles Community Hospital
