3 arrested in Compton sex offender sweep

COMPTON, Calif. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies checked known sex offenders to make sure they had registered properly, and that they are living where they are supposed to.

L.A. County Sheriff's Detective Danny Coon says there are 338 registered sex offenders in Compton.

Before the Sheriff's department started its registration sweeps, 42 percent of them were not registered properly. On Wednesday, deputies found only 3 percent out of compliance.

"We have over the years found that registrants who failed to register have been involved in other sexual crimes," said Coon. "There've been some high profile crimes by offenders who failed to register, the Runyan case in Orange County and some other cases up north."
