Man arrested after O.C. attempted heist

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. James Alexander Beverley, 57, was detained by a security guard just moments after this incident at the branch along 2750 West Coast Highway just before 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Newport Beach police say the man walked into the bank and handed the teller a note claiming he had a gun. That teller then handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.

Moments later, the bank's security guard detained him and called police.

Beverly was arrested on suspicion of bank robbery and was being held on $50,000 bail.
