NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. --
A top Los Angeles Police Department official said Wednesday the department is looking into whether a recent synagogue shooting in North Hollywood was connected to Israeli organized crime.Deputy Chief Michael Downing said Israeli organized crime has been responsible for a growing number of real estate frauds, narcotics sales and other crimes in Southern California.
Downing's comments came after a trip to Tel Aviv this week where he spoke at a police conference and talked about Israeli organized crime.
On Oct. 29, a gunman escaped after shooting two men in the kneecaps in the parking garage of the synagogue. Downing said the attack was likely some kind of warning.
