$10M bail set for accused LAPD detective

LOS ANGELES

In setting the bail, the judge said Detective Stephanie Lazarus faces a possible life sentence and would certainly flee if given the chance.

Her attorney, Mark Overland called the bail amount ridiculous and that the judge has essentially "granted no bail."

Overland said he intends to ask a state appellate court panel to review the bail amount.

Lazarus, 49, is charged with beating and shooting Sherri Rae Rasmussen in Van Nuys in 1986.

Lazarus was arrested in June. Investigators say DNA testing of saliva from a bite mark on the victim's arm links Lazarus to the murder.
