Sewage spill forces closure of Colorado Lagoon

LONG BEACH, Calif. The 800 gallon spill near Third Street and Granada Avenue was reported at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.

City officials say the sewage entered the city's storm drain system and flowed north to the Colorado Lagoon. The city did not identify who or what caused the spill.

The lagoon will remain off limits to swimmers until high bacteria levels subside.

The Colorado Lagoon is an inland pond, about a mile north of Long Beach's ocean beaches.
